Hi there! I'm Paula Vargas Sullivan, a first-generation college student in the USA, passionately embracing a dual cultural identity as a second-generation Filipino-American. Raised 50% in the vibrant Philippines and 50% in the diverse tapestry of the USA, my journey is shaped by the triumphs and unique struggles of this dual cultural experience.
In June 2023, I proudly graduated from the University of California, Davis, majoring in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Neuroscience. This academic journey has been a testament to resilience, determination, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge, coming from a low-income single mother household since we moved to the USA.
My interests span a wide spectrum, from immersing myself in the realms of fantasy books to exploring the depths of AI and the aesthetics of gaming environments. You'll often find me engrossed in Nintendo Switch games, diving into the latest advancements in AI, and geeking out over mechanical keyboards. I also cherish the art of crafting written pieces, using words to not only express my journey but also share the unique challenges of growing up in two contrasting cultures.
My ultimate dream is to become a brain specialist, merging my academic knowledge with my passion for understanding the intricacies of the brain. Concurrently, I aspire to be a beacon for the struggles and triumphs of being a second-generation Filipino-American, challenging stereotypes and fostering understanding, especially in the realm of mental health within multicultural contexts.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Please explore the content on this website, where I aim to create a safe, understanding, and empathetic space for conversations about the multifaceted experiences of being a second-generation Filipino-American woman.
